Eurovision 2026: Austrian Ambassador to Greece Welcomes Akyla and the Greek Delegation at Special Event
As Vienna prepares to host the landmark 70th Eurovision Song Contest, the Austrian Ambassador to Greece, Gerda Vogl, welcomed Akyla and the Greek delegation at a special event held at the Austrian ambassadorial residence on Tuesday evening, April 28, in the presence of ambassadors from several countries and distinguished guests.
In her welcoming remarks, Gerda Vogl said she was especially delighted that Vienna had been selected as the host city of Eurovision 2026 and wished Akyla “the best of luck,” expressing her hope that he would bring victory to Greece.
For his part, ERT President Giannis Papadopoulos spoke about the power of music to unite people, which is also the core message of Eurovision. “The Eurovision Song Contest, which this year celebrates its 70th edition in Vienna, is an institution that for decades has united nations, cultures and traditions through the universal language of music,” he noted in his speech, adding that “ERT has consistently supported Greece’s participation in this great celebration, giving young artists the opportunity to stand out through their creativity.”

Akyla warmly thanked the Austrian Ambassador for the wonderful evening and promised to give his very best on the Eurovision stage in Vienna. “I will do my best to make you all proud,” he said.
The Greek Eurovision representative performed “Ferto” and “Rise Like a Phoenix,” receiving the warmest applause from guests and journalists who attended the special event.
