Eurovision 2026: Greece’s Ambassador to Austria welcomed Akyla and the Greek delegation at a special event
An event in honour of Akyla and the Greek delegation participating in the 70th Eurovision Song Contest was hosted by the Embassy of Greece in Austria on Saturday, 9 May 2026, just a few days before Greece’s appearance on the stage of the Wiener Stadthalle.
The Ambassador of Greece to Austria, Georgios Iliopoulos, and Mrs Anthoussa Diakopoulou warmly welcomed the Greek delegation during an evening dedicated to Greece’s participation in Eurovision 2026.

During his address, Mr Iliopoulos stressed that Eurovision is “a major European celebration and a meeting point for people, languages, sounds and cultures,” while describing Akyla’s participation as “modern, dynamic, with an electronic pulse, but also with a personal voice and a clear artistic identity.” He also congratulated everyone who worked on this year’s entry.
For his part, Akyla said he was particularly happy to be at the Embassy. “I feel blessed to represent Greece and I will give 100% of myself. It is a joy to work with this wonderful team,” he added.

Earlier on Saturday morning, Akyla visited the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Austria and the Hellenic National School of Vienna. There, he met with His Eminence Metropolitan Arsenios of Austria, Exarch of Hungary and Central Europe, who wished the Greek delegation the best of luck in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Akyla also met the school’s young pupils, took photos and sang with them, while also gifting them the signature “Ferto” beanie.
