The May 2005 Eurovision, which will take place in Kiev, might be months away, but Switzerland decided to get down to work from now. Already representatives of the public media have selected the band that will represent Switzerland in the European music contest. A youthful Estonian band called Vanilla Ninja that is made up by four girls: Piret, Katrin, Lenna and Triinu. If Vanilla Ninja are not well known to the Greek public, they are very successful in Switzerland, Austria and Germany. The four girls are very popular and combined with the fact of their excellent record sales constituted them as a favorite for Eurovision.
Swiss Choice Criteria
If you are wondering why the Swiss preferred an import band instead of a local one for the their representation, we inform you that this is not the first time this happens. Eurovision fans will remember that the same tactic was followed and in 1998 when they chose the famous Canadian singer, Celine Dion.
Switzerland was not looking for a new talent but for someone recognizable and with a successful musical career. Vanilla Ninja were exactly what they were looking for. The only thing we can do is to wish them good luck!
